Once I have paid, how long will it be before I get Smartnav mobile.
We aim to process your request within an hour of payment being made, however, if purchasing outside of normal office hours, it will be done first thing in the morning. In the near future this will be automated.
How do I download the application?
How do I download the application?
Once you have purchased the application, we will send you an email with a website link to download the application together with your unique authentication code which will allow the application to work. We will also supply a User Guide and our terms and conditions.
It takes a long time to download on my mobile, is there a quicker way that I can get the application?
Yes. If you access your emails from your phone, it is likely that you will be connecting to the internet via GPRS or Wi-fi. GPRS is the slowest download and this can take up to around 20 minutes. If your mobile phone is connected to a wi-fi network, the is rapidly reduced to around 5 minutes.
The fastest way of getting your application is to download it via broadband onto your PC, and then to copy the application across.
Where can I find it on my phone?
The application should be found in the programmes section. If you copied it across from your PC, then you will need to find where in the phone it was copied to. The .CAB file needs to be opened, and this will put an icon into the Program Menu.
I have a BlackBerry - how can I get Smartnav mobile onto my Blackberry?
To start this process, you need to have connected your Blackberry to your PC and have BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed
1.) Click onto the link by clicking here
2.) Press save to save the ‘ZIP’ file to your desktop.
3.) Unzip the file to unpack the 4 components onto your desktop
4.) Use the Application Loader within the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to load the application onto your BlackBerry
- Start the Add/Remove Applications
- Locate the Smartnav Mobile .alx file on your desktop and follow the instructions
5.) Once complete, disconnect your phone and start the Application.
6.) Enter your phone number and authentication code supplied
My authentication code hasn’t worked? What is wrong?
If the activation code fails, please check that the mobile phone number that you supplied to us, is the same as in the phone and that the number that appears in the initial start up screen matches these. Sometimes the mobile phones pre-populate this field, and if it is incorrect then the application will not authenticate. It is important that the full mobile number commencing with 07 (i.e. not +44 7xxxxx) is used without spacing.
I’ve entered my authentication code, but it is stuck on the authentication screen. Why?
This can occur if you are not connected to the internet. Please ensure that your phone disconnected from your PC? If it is not, then please disconnect the USP lead from the phone and close the application. Now re-open the application and try again.
You may be in an area of little or no GPRS coverage. Check your phone instructions to establish if you are connected to GPRS and if you have a good signal. If not, you will need to try again when there is a better GPRS reception.
Please ensure that the ‘Data Connection’ function shows as ‘on’ rather than ‘off’
BlackBerry Users - please check with your company provider that you are able to access the internet for mobile applications
My phone battery does not last very long
After you have finished using the application, you should use the main menu and press the exit button to close the application. If you use the hard key 'Back button' the application will remain open in the background. This means that the GPS will still be running, and as such the battery drain will be higher. When driving you should use an in-car charger to keep the battery charged.
I’ve entered a destination, but it just says ‘searching for GPS’.
Smartnav needs a GPS fix in order to work effectively.It will be unlikely that you can get GPS when inside buildings, and occasionally in built up areas with tall buildings or trees.
The destination time given verbally is slightly different to that given by the visual instructions. Why?
Please ensure that the date and time is correctly and accurately set on your phone. If this is sufficiently different then it can affect the Estimated time of arrival.
Will it work abroad?
No, it is not designed for use outside of the UK
How much are calls to the PA in the call centre?
Calls to the PA cost up to 59p per minute. This is OPTIONAL if you want to call
Is there any cost for the route itself?
Yes, but these are very small and are normally covered within your contract with your mobile phone provider. Typically a Smartnav route is around 20-30 kb of data.
Is there any cost for the application download?
If you chose to download the application via GPRS, then the approximate size is 4MB and you may be charged for this data transfer if it exceeds any monthly allowance within your contract. Please check with your airtime provider to ensure that you don’t exceed any monthly allowance.
My phone gets really warm. Is that normal?
Yes. The GPS module and the processing power required means that the phone can appear to be warmer than normal.
Some of the direction icons are small.
On some higher definition screens, the directional icons are reduced in size. Only the core phones listed will support the graphics pack.
